AmPac Business Capital Receives $450,000 Loan and $150,000 Grant from Opportunity Finance Network’s Finance Justice Fund
Mission-driven lender will deploy new capital to expand support for underserved and overlooked small businesses across California.
Ontario, Calif. — AmPac Business Capital, a mission-driven, faith-based nonprofit lender, announced today that it has been awarded a $450,000 program-related investment loan and a $150,000 grant through Opportunity Finance Network’s (OFN) Finance Justice Fund. The funding will allow AmPac to expand its reach to underserved entrepreneurs often overlooked by traditional lenders, including women-, minority-, veteran-, and rural-owned small businesses across California, by providing flexible, affordable capital and wrap-around advisory services.
The Finance Justice Fund is a socially responsible investment initiative launched by OFN to raise $1 billion in capital from corporate and philanthropic partners. It provides long-term, low-cost loans and grants to community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and other mission-driven lenders to address the racial wealth gap, long-standing disinvestment, and persistent poverty. As of July 2024, the Fund has deployed over $251 million in loans and grants to 135 member CDFIs nationwide.
Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Ontario, California, AmPac Business Capital is both a Small Business Administration (SBA) Certified Development Company and a U.S. Department of the Treasury Certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). AmPac pairs affordable capital with education, mentorship, and community connections through its Entrepreneur Ecosystem, enabling entrepreneurs to thrive at every stage of business. To date, the organization has funded more than $2 billion in SBA loans, making it one of the nation’s most experienced mission-focused SBA lenders.
“We are honored to receive this support from Opportunity Finance Network’s Finance Justice Fund,” said Hilda Kennedy, founder and president of AmPac Business Capital. “This infusion of flexible capital will enable us to reach more underserved and overlooked small businesses across California including veteran owned business, businesses in rural areas, and other documented underserved business communities. AmPac seeks to champion the break down of barriers to financing, and provide the coaching and connections needed for them to thrive.”
Since its launch, the Finance Justice Fund has drawn major corporate and philanthropic investors. Twitter was the Fund’s first corporate investor, committing $100 million in long-term, low-cost loans and a $1 million grant. Additional partners include Wells Fargo, Truist, the MacArthur Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, JPMorgan Chase, PNC, and Nextdoor, each contributing to the Fund’s mission of expanding access to capital in communities underserved by mainstream finance.
